Peter Knight started sailing in the UK in 1965 at only 8 years old, albeit falling overboard at his first attempt. Undeterred, he sailed at School and as a Sea Scout, becoming an Instructor.

At 18, he took his first off-shore trip from Cornwall to the Scilly Isles, via France. In his mid twenties, he started to Landyacht, enjoying the adrenaline rush of sailing at 80kmh  with his backside mere inches away from the ground.

His career in Direct Marketing, specialising in database marketing before the term became vogue, culminated with Watson Ward Albert Varndell, the foremost Independent Agency in London. Landyachting on Pendine Sands, Pembrokeshire - apparant wind adrenaline sailing

In the late 80’s, he married a New Zealander working in London. On their return from honeymoon, spent sailing a Bénéteau around Turkey, they discovered that the burglars had had two weeks to clean out their house.

This confirmed their decision to move to New Zealand, spending six months travelling through Egypt, South East Asia and Australia before visiting Melbourne in 1990 - and staying.

Peter continued to sail, joining the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron and subsequently the Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

He worked for two of the major DM Agencies in Melbourne before establishing Hutson Knight Direct with Jean in 1995. Divorced, he became an Australian citizen in 1996. The lights are on, but is anyone home?

In 1997, he and Jean were offered the opportunity to join "Sweetwater", an American Swan 57 in Christchurch, New Zealand and to assist her owners sail her to Indonesia - a six month trip covering in excess of 10,000 kilometres.

From Bali, they moved to the UK for a six-month sabbatical, living in a cliff-top cottage in Pembrokeshire where, after the tropics, Peter suffered the agony of sailing through a Welsh winter and worked on his book before returning to Melbourne mid - 1998.

Since that time, Peter and Jean have married, re-established Hutson Knight Direct and alongside servicing their clients, have been planning this circumnavigation.

Peter has extensive keel-boat experience and holds an RYA Yachtmaster ticket.
